Year 6
Year 6 Class Teachers are Tim Marshall and Claire Dodgson
While the class teachers are working out of the class during PPA and management time, Miss Dolan and Miss McKeown take over the reigns of teaching. We are supported across the year group by Mr Latty, who provides high quality classroom support during maths lessons and also delivers the carefully selected and targeted dedicated support groups, which occur throughout the week. The year 6 team is passionate about teaching and learning and aims to deliver the highest quality provision possible.
If you would like to contact us, please feel free to either send us a message or contact the office directly – we are always happy to talk.
While Year 6 does host the end of KS2 assessments, these are far from being our main focus. Helping each individual to fulfil their potential through a curriculum founded in high expectations and executed with kindness and support fundamental to our mission. We see all of Year 6 as a transition to secondary school, and while this does mean lots of hard work, it can also mean a little more freedom, trust and responsibility.
Our topics begin in Autumn with an exploration of the mass migrations and sometime invasions of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings; in the lead up to Christmas, we jump forward to the Twentieth Century, where we explore the topic of ‘Entertainment’, with a particular focus on The Beatles. By Spring, we have moved on to the Year 6 Spy Academy, in which we master the art of persuasion and delve into the fascinating world of forensic science. As summer bathes us in its golden light, we turn our heads to the dim and distant past of history once more, when we learn about the wonders of Ancient Egypt. And let’s not forget the somewhat famous Year 6 summer musical theatre extravaganza, which showcases the pupils’ ability to command an audience.
