New ‘Give As You Can’ café

Resurrected Bites are launching another Give As You Can café on Wednesday from 26th June at St Wilfrid’s Church on Duchy Road between 10am and 2pm. This is a 10 minute walk from the Royal Hall in the town centre. This is in addition to their Community Grocery scheme where you can access good quality food for as little as £5. New café for people with English as a second language

If English is your second language and you would like a safe, friendly space to practice, then this Conversation Cafe is for you! Free tea and coffee. FREE events at Harrogate Library

Harrogate Library host a number of FREE activities for parents and children including under 5’s Storytime and a Lego Club. A timetable of all their activities are attached to this email or you can visit: www.northyorks.gov.uk/leisure-tourism-and-culture/libraries/local-libraries/harrogate-library They will also be launching their popular FREE Summer Reading Challenge on Saturday 6 July and this year’s theme is ‘Marvellous Makers’.

 

They will also be recruiting young volunteers aged 14 to 24 years to become reading champions and encourage young people aged 4 to 12 years to keep reading over the summer holidays. Keep an eye on the website for more information.

Free Priority Services Register (PSR)

Extra support and advice in the event of a power cut, water leak or planned works

Power cuts or water shortages can cause a worry, particularly if you, or someone you care for, needs power or water for medical reasons, are elderly, sick or disabled or have trouble communicating. You may have young children to look after at home.

Yorkshire Children’s Charity Grants

Help for young people aged 19 years and under

  • Grants for Wheelchairs
  • Grants for Specialist Equipment for individuals and organisations, including sensory rooms and outdoor spaces.
  • Helping Hand grants of to £200 per child for essentials and things to make life better and create memories. The needs of each child will be looked at so there is not a set list of what will be funded.  A representative from the child’s school or agency/charity working with the child can recommend for funding.

A weekly shop from as little as £3

The community groceries are run through a subscription scheme and are for people who are in financial hardship. It costs just a fraction of a normal supermarket shop and it saves thousands of tonnes of food from going to landfill every week. You can join for £5 then have access to a weekly shop for just a few pounds (a 4+ family can get their shop for £6). They run at New Park School and Gracious Street Methodist Church in Knaresborough twice weekly https://resurrectedbites.co.uk/#groceries


Support with your fuel bills and energy saving

Struggling with increased utility bills?

HELP can refer families to Warm & Well North Yorkshire or the Green Doctor for support with energy bills, energy debt and energy efficiency as well as advice on keeping warm in the home. Contact the charity on 01423 813090 between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

A referring organisation for the Trussell Trusts Foodbanks (at Mowbray Church in Harrogate, Life Destiny Church in Starbeck and Holy Trinity Church in Knaresborough). If any of you are in crisis requiring food, please get in touch with the school office and we will refer you. Community venues, churches and local libraries are friendly, safe and inclusive places, offering not just warmth but a place to enjoy the company of others, and maybe a hot drink. MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

MIND is providing a telephone support service (weekdays between 8.30am and 5pm). Attached is a programme of activities they are offering this autumn. Advance booking is essential for these sessions which are free and open to anyone who needs support with their mental health.

In addition, they are also offering:

Mental Health Befriending service – new service started October 2020
This service will match volunteer befrienders with people who would benefit from community-based support (help with shopping, social meetings in cafes, walks). The service aims to develop social relationships for people who are isolated, lonely, in need of human companionship and struggle to make those connections on their own.

They are also working in partnership with Citizens Advice Craven and Harrogate Districts to provide quick access and specialist advice on Benefits, Consumer Matters, Debt and Money, Housing and Work for people with mental health problems and their carers. You will need to contact Mind in Harrogate District in the first instance to access this service.

Out of Hours Mental Health Support Service

The service operates between 7.30pm and 11.30pm Saturday and Sunday evenings. Offering the opportunity for people in emotional distress to visit the Acorn Centre at Mind in Harrogate for face to face 1:1 emotional support, signposting and referral onto other services.
