Vision for PSHCEe
PSHCEe is a principal component to Rossett Acre’s vision of ‘Excellence and Happiness for All’. In PSHCEe, our vision is to foster happy, healthy and responsible citizens, who are confident, independent learners and effective contributors to their community. We believe in delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience using a bespoke PSHCEe curriculum, designed to meet the needs of our school community. We also have a commitment to staff continuous professional development and a collaborative approach to learning, which includes all stakeholders.
P4C
P4C stands for Philosophy for Children and is an approach used to engage the children in rational, reasonable and critical thinking on topics that matter to them. It is also used to generate and explore some of the ‘big’ philosophical questions of life.
No Outsiders
At Rossett Acre Primary School, we aim to teach the children to recognise and accept differences. Throughout their lives, they will be living alongside peers of different race, religion, gender, age, disability and sexual orientation. Through the use of the resource No Outsiders, we support the children with understanding differences and understanding our key message: we are all equal and we all belong; we are all insiders, there are no outsiders in our school. It is vital that we teach our children to accept differences, accept the views of others and to treat others with respect, even if they disagree. The No Outsiders resource provides teachers with a series of lessons based around common children’s books. This then opens up into carefully planned lessons for children to explore diversity and respect.
Zones of Regulation
We believe in the importance of children understanding their emotions and having strategies to support themselves when needed. Through the use of the Zones of Regulation, we are teaching children about different emotions, tools they may use to support themselves and about the importance of discussing their emotions. We teach the Zones of Regulation from Reception all the way to Year 6 through discreet lessons. The Zones of Regulation lessons are carefully planned into every half term. We also refer to these daily through check ins and discussions.
At Rossett Acre, we have three Core Themes for PSHCEe:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Living in the Wider World
