Year 5
The Year 5 Class Teachers are Mrs Wood and Miss Illingworth
Teachers
Miss Dolan and Miss McKeown also teach in the Year 5 classes. Mrs Bednall also supports us in the classroom.
Please feel free to DoJo your class teacher if you have any questions or queries.
Spellings are set on a Monday and tested the following Monday.
The children are expected to read for 10 minutes each evening, practise spellings and complete 5 minutes on Times Tables Rockstars.
In Year 5, pupils are given a wide range of roles and responsibilities; from assembly chair monitors to whole school 'Playleaders' (beginning in the Spring Term). They are provided with opportunities to begin to act as role models for the younger year groups and have their voices heard within our school PVA and Eco-committee.

Learning By Questions Homework
At Rosset Acre, we use Learning by Questions in lessons but also for weekly homework in KS2. Learning by Questions (LbQ), is an online teaching and learning platform designed for primary schools. It provides ready-made, interactive question sets for subjects like maths, English, and science, delivering immediate, personalised feedback to pupils and a real-time performance matrix for teachers to support interventions and track progress.
Homework
Each week your child must:
- Read aloud at least 3 times
- Complete their homework on LBQ: English, Maths, Science or other.
- Practise their times tables regularly (including accessing TTRS)
- Practise their given spellings
- Occasional Talk Homework
English Targets
Each child is given individual writing targets to work towards. They are encouraged to try and achieve these targets every time they write. After demonstrating their ability to use the target four times independently, they can tick it off and are given a new target.
