This week it is Children’s Mental Health Week and Miss Whiteley led an assembly on Monday about this year’s theme ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ which encourages children and young people to embrace self-awareness and build their resilience to cope with life’s ups and downs. A huge thank you to Miss Whiteley for leading her first assembly and for making it so interesting for the children.

Rewilding Our Schools

The first Red Kite Learning Trust Olympics took place this week with year 5 and 6 pupils from all our Trust schools competing in a number of sporting events.

I wanted to say a huge thank you to the parents and children (PTA) who held a Cake Bake on the last day of term before the holidays. It was so popular that they ran out of cakes!
Thank you to everyone who provided cakes for the sale and to those of you who bought cakes too.

The sale raised £300.07! A fantastic amount.

School Mental Health Award

We are delighted to share that we have been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools ‘School Mental Health Award’ – Silver Status.
Silver status means that we have contributed to mental health in the local area.

The children had a fabulous time at East Barnby this year. Despite the weather being absolutely atrocious for the first few days, the children really got stuck in to the activities and not a single child complained about the heavy (continuous) rain and up to 40mph winds!

A huge thank you to everyone who came to the Summer Fair on Saturday, it was a great turnout and the weather was glorious for us. The ice-cream van line remained long, all day, and the storytime marquee was a great success too.

On Monday, Charlotte (Year 6 pupil who is part of the Trust Youth Board) visited Harrogate Grammar and Western School to look at 1:1 iPad scheme.The Youth Board viewed lessons at Western Primary to see them in action and then had lunch and a discussion with Richard Sheriff.

OH, WHAT A ‘ROSSETT ACRE’ SHOW!

Well done to everyone who entered an exhibit in this year’s show. There were over 300 entries all the way from Early Years to Year 6; some from our pre-school children and some from parents and teachers.

There has been a definite buzz around school this week with exciting things happening. The Annual Show was another success, and I was very tempted to try all the yummy looking cakes, breads and jams as I was taking a look at the entries.

The deadline for entries is 9am on Thursday 8th June. The show takes place on Tuesday 13th June. Entries need to be dropped off on the day by 8.45am at the Sports Hall.

On Thursday, last week, we held a New Starters Information meeting for parents/carers’ of children who will join us in September. The event was well attended and it was great sharing information about our school and enabling those present to have a look at our Early Years classrooms and meet the teachers.

This week, Year 6 have been sitting their KS2 SATs. They have one Maths paper left to complete tomorrow and then they will have finished them. Hurrah! The Y6 children have been fabulous all week, they have been an absolute pleasure in our SATs breakfast club and they have approached their SATs so maturely. I am so proud of them all. Well done.

On Monday, Mr Alastair Field, the Head of primary at Roundhay School, Leeds, visited us for the morning to look at the quality of our writing in school and speak to children and staff. Mr Field was very complimentary about our children’s writing and really enjoyed observing the teachers and children working in class.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWLY TRAINED 'PLAY LEADERS'

At the beginning of the Spring Term, all Year 5 pupils were offered the opportunity to become 'Play Leaders'. The aim of the Playground Leaders scheme is to introduce and develop leadership skills in Year 5 children by training them up and getting them to organise activities for other children in the playground.

Red Nose Day

Our PVA (Pupil Voice Ambassadors) have chosen Comic Relief to be our main charity event this year, outside of money raising activities for school-based projects.

World Book Week at RAP

Next week we are celebrating World Book Week in school and we have been fortunate enough to purchase about 50 new Little People Big Dreams Books using the money from September's Sponsored Read.

This week, Miss Woodcock led our whole school Monday assembly. She showed the children the importance of being kind and that once words are out in the open, you can’t take them back. This was demonstrated with a tube of toothpaste, where one child squeezed all the toothpaste out of the tube and another child tried to put it back, to no avail.
