Our curriculum

Year 1

The Year 1 Class Teachers are Mrs Bridge and Miss Rogers

In Year One we are kind and friendly, happy and enthusiastic, curious and eager, determined and resilient. We love to learn and to develop new skills in a positive, stimulating and rewarding environment.

We are extremely lucky to have large and welcoming classrooms. Initially we play and learn very much as we did in EYFS. We have many areas to support this, including tactile sand, water and playdough, dramatic role-play, industrious construction, exciting small world and calm and relaxing reading. As the year progresses, our learning becomes more focused as our skills develop. Don’t worry; we still have lots of fun making new discoveries and amazing ourselves by what we can do!

We consist of 2 classes:

Mrs Bridge is supported by Miss Kennedy. Miss Rogers is supported by Mrs Clarke. Miss Dolan and Miss McKeown also teach in class. We all work closely together for the benefit of all our children.

Learning at Home

This is an extremely valuable way of supporting, consolidating and extending class learning. This varies throughout the year and includes: weekly phonics tasks that are sent on ClassDojo and weekly spellings to practise.

We also encourage the children to use Phonics Hero, Numbots and Purple Mash to support their learning at home.

Phonics

We are proud to be a Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised school.

Throughout the year we encourage children to read at home as often as possible as it really does make a huge difference. The children will be sent home with a new reading book every week, that they have read three times in school with an adult.

Thank you for your support.

What your child needs to bring to school:

  • Book Bag-containing reading books and reading record book.
  • Water bottle-containing only water please.
  • PE kit-all items clearly labelled.
  • A healthy snack-fruit is provided in class.

Now we are in Year One would like to enable the children to have responsibility for their own belongings.

Working Together

Team work is the key to your child’s success, so we make every effort to help you get involved and become a vital part of your child’s learning. We really value your support at home throughout the school year. Please feel free to speak to us either at the classroom door between 8.40am and 8.50am or send a message using ClassDojo.
